A new section of each course starts monthly. If enrolling in a series of two or more courses, please be sure to space the start date for each course at least two months apart.
All courses run for six weeks, with a two-week grace period at the end. Two lessons are released each week for the six-week duration of the course. You do not have to be present when lessons are released. You will have access to all lessons until the course ends. However, the interactive discussion area that accompanies each lesson will automatically close two weeks after the lesson is released. As such, we strongly recommend that you complete each lesson within two weeks of its release.
The final exam will be released on the same day as the last lesson. Once the final exam has been released, you will have two weeks to complete all of your course work, including the final exam.
Lesson 1
What is shyness? In our first lesson, you'll gain a new perspective on shyness and learn what causes the anxiety and physical symptoms behind shyness. With this perspective, you'll be empowered to achieve the level of sociability you desire. You'll gain new appreciation for your personality and be on your way to more confidence in interacting with others.
Lesson 2
In this lesson, we'll explore the habits and thought patterns behind shyness. Much like a computer program, these thought patterns activate whenever you're faced with a social situation and stop you from being able to communicate effectively with others. By identifying this pattern, you can stop it in its tracks and achieve the deep, meaningful relationships you deserve.
Lesson 3
Are you energetic and enthusiastic about life? Others are naturally drawn to people who are positive and take care of themselves. This lesson teaches you how to take advantage of this fact. You'll learn ways to increase your energy through diet, exercise, and recreation.
Lesson 4
In this lesson, you will learn why confidence is a gift and how you can give that gift to others. We'll explore the thoughts and actions that increase confidence, as well as the unintended actions you might be taking that decrease your confidence.
Lesson 5
Did you know that over 70% of what you communicate is nonverbal? Since you speak volumes with your eyes, gestures, and expressions, you'll want to ensure that what you say with your body language is exactly what you intend. In this lesson, you'll learn how to advertise your newfound approachability and confidence to others.
Lesson 6
Before you can interact with others effectively, you need to learn how to quiet the anxiety storm that usually besets shy people when they attempt social activities. So today, we'll go over some ways that you can mentally rehearse for upcoming events and maintain your composure during social events.
Lesson 7
Now that you're halfway through the course, it's time to take action. Today, you'll learn simple conversation starters for nearly every social situation you encounter. You'll learn which topics are best for starting conversations and which topics to avoid.
Lesson 8
In this lesson, you'll learn how to move past the acquaintance level into the realm of friendship with the people you meet. You'll find out how to start and maintain deeper and more lasting friendships.
Lesson 9
Romantic relationships are particularly stressful for shy people. In this lesson, we'll go over some ways to approach a person in whom you're romantically interested. You'll learn how to playfully flirt, ask for the date, and learn how to be a good partner in relationship.
Lesson 10
Whenever you communicate with others, there's always the potential for differences of opinion. In this lesson, you'll learn how to resolve these conflicts. By learning assertiveness techniques, you'll discover how you can stand up for your rights without trampling on the rights of others.
Lesson 11
Public speaking consistently tops the list of things people fear most, surpassing even death. Get ready to conquer this fear! By enhancing your speaking skills, you'll perform better in job interviews, negotiate with confidence, and widen your network of business and social contacts.
Lesson 12
We'll close the course by glimpsing your new life beyond shyness. You'll meet people who have bid goodbye to their shyness and achieved the life they wanted. By the end of the course, you should be able to create your own action plan to achieve your social goals.
