The Roman Empire endured for 1480 years, from its official beginning in 27 B.C. to the conquest of Constantinople in A.D. 1453.  Throughout nearly a millennium and a half, it endured invasions, economic and political calamities, and devastating pestilence.  But it also brought stability and an enduring legacy in the military arts, engineering design, and in legal procedures to the western world.  Examine the causes of its decline and what lessons can be learned from its eventual demise.
