Step Back in Time - Ste. Genevieve, Mo.

Explore this charming and friendly historic community which was initially founded as a French colony. Named after the patron saint of Paris, the village was founded in 1735 as the first permanent European settlement in the Louisiana Territory. It’s been named one of America’s Dozen Distinctive Destinations, and one of Budget Travel’s Coolest Small Towns in America. Our expedition begins at the Great River Road Interpretive Center to gain some background on the area. Our discovery will then take us to tour several historic homes and sites, to include the Bolduc House Museum (considered the most authentically restored Creole house in the Nation), the Felix Valle House State Historic Site, and the Louisiana Academy. Lunch will be at the Old Brick House Restaurant, in the oldest brick building west of the Mississippi followed by a stop at Sweet Things Ol’ Time Candy and Gift Shop. Next, off to Kaskaskia Island to view the Liberty Bell of the West and a quick tasting stop at one of Ste. Genevieve’s local wineries.  A full day with moderate walking to tour homes and sites.
